Csardas (mp3)

Czardas (Vittorio Monti, arr. Alain Crepin – 1996)

Vittorio Monti was born in Naples, but lived most of his life in France.

The Czardas  is probably the best-known of Hungarian gypsy dances. This includes two parts: the first slow and languorous, while the second is lively and calls on the virtuosity of the performer.

Monti wrote this piece for violin and orchestra and many arrangements were soon made for all sorts of instruments and ensembles.

Alain Crepin arranged a version for saxophone.

Olivier Zbona, a graduate in saxophone from the Mons Conservatory in Belgium, is the present saxophone soloist in the Air Force Band.
